Jimmy Carter, The American Contractor and "Sat" Phones

Nothing new here, here and here.

1)  President Jimmy Carter came home empty-handed from his trip to Havana this week, failing to secure the release of the U.S. government contractor jailed in Cuba for bringing satellite phones to Jewish groups.

2)  Alan Gross claims not to know he was bringing in equipment from the U.S. government

3)  The Cuban-Jewish community claims not to know anything about Gross or the phones.

4)  Carter claims the trip was not about bringing Mr. Gross home.

5)  Carter met with the Castro brothers, Catholic Church Cardinal Jaime Ortega, and a host of bloggers and dissidents.

6)  Carter tells the U.S.government to lift the embargo.

7)  Carter tells the Cuban government to respect all international agreements on human rights.

8)  Carter got fed lots of treats made out of peanuts.

9)  Cuban-American politicians freaked out.

10)  Miami-based, Cuban-American academics freaked out.

11)  Maybe there will be a deal, maybe not.  Five Cuban spies held in U.S. prisons, for Mr. Gross.

This story could have been written a hundred times over, over the last 50 years.  Time for a change.
